Both Samsung and LG have released curved display smartphones but they are nothing more but public technology previews of the things to come. In the future, consumers will get access to improved curved and flexible display handsets that will also be priced much lower than today's LG G Flex and Samsung Galaxy Round.
Back in January at CES 2013, Samsung revealed Youm, a concept device that uses its innovative wrapped-display technology. According to two insiders quoted by Bloomberg now the company already "plans to release a Galaxy smartphone next year with a three-sided display that wraps around the edges so messages can be read from an angle". This display's sides will be able to operate independently, sources say.
The Youm technology has been already integrated in the Samsung Galaxy Round and now the company works on an upgraded version to be used for the upcoming handset which does not have a name yet. According to Bloomberg's insiders, this new technology will be incorporated in the Note or S series but this has not been decided yet.
Other recent rumors mention that Apple is also working on a similar technology to use with upcoming high-end smartphones so Samsung must keep up. These plans have not been confirmed by the South Korean company yet but we will surely hear more about this in the near future.
