Samsung mocks Apple for iPhone Duo durability, thickness, weight in new ad
It would be an understatement to say that the launch of the Apple iPhone Duo isn’t going smoothly. Soon after JerryRigEverything exposed that the iPhone Duo doesn’t like dust, users began reporting that their brand-new iPhone Duo units were suffering catastrophic inner display failures. While the exact cause of the display issues is not yet known, signs point to the iPhone Duo’s hinge as the main culprit.
Naturally, Samsung saw these iPhone Duo issues and is attempting to take advantage of the PR nightmare that Apple has found itself in. The Korean giant has released a scathing ad mocking the iPhone Duo’s durability, weight, and thickness.
Firstly, the ad, which is linked at the end, mocks the iPhone Duo for its fragile hinge. JerryRigEverything showed in the iPhone Duo durability test that the hinge severely malfunctions once dust and debris get into it. This causes the iPhone Duo not to close properly. Samsung references exactly this in the ad. The Galaxy Z Fold8 passed with flying colors in the same test, which makes Samsung’s criticism even harsher.
Samsung also takes a jab at the iPhone Duo’s thickness and weight, pointing out that the Galaxy Z Fold8 is 1.6 mm thinner and 53 g lighter. This is a legitimate criticism of the iPhone Duo. The Galaxy Z Fold8 is impressively thin and light, a fact that we praised in our review of the phone.
Finally, Samsung ends the ad by claiming that the company is simply “Years ahead in Foldables”. Once again, this is not a lie. Samsung has been making foldable smartphones since 2019, when it debuted the Samsung Galaxy Fold. So, Samsung has a major head start on Apple, which is evident in the company’s mature hardware design.
We have to wait and see how well Apple handles the iPhone Duo’s launch troubles, and whether or not the phone becomes Cupertino’s new star product.
