Samsung has expanded the range of vehicles that support its Digital Key feature. Announced last year, the tool allows you to lock and unlock your car with your smartphone.
Two possible technologies can unlock the vehicle, NFC and ultra wide-band (UWB). The Samsung Digital Key was originally only available with a select few models from Audi, BMW, Ford and Genesis.
According to a support article reportedly from Samsung, unearthed by TizenHelp, the list of compatible vehicles now includes the Genesis GV60 and GV90, the Kia Niro and several BMW cars: all series 1 to 8, Z4, X5, X6, X7, iX3, iX and i4.
While the Genesis vehicles are compatible with UWB and NFC technologies, the other models are only compatible with NFC. The Samsung Digital Key feature is currently only available in South Korea with compatible phones such as the Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy 21 series.
It is unclear whether or when Samsung will roll out the tool in other countries. However, a similar Android digital car key feature is available for the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro and Galaxy S21 with some recent BMW vehicles. This Android feature is available in the US, UK, and other European countries.
