The new yellow gadget offers a safe tablet experience for children

Samsung's strategy has long been to make a phone and tablet for nearly every conceivable taste. With the new Galaxy Tab 3 Kids 7.0, the Korean company is broadening its focus yet again, this time with children as the target customers.

The tablet features a 7-inch 1024 x 600 display, a dual core 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB RAM, 8 GB of internal storage, a 1.3 MP front-facing camera, a 3 MP back-facing camera, 802.11a/b/g/n wifi, a microSD slot (up to 32 GB cards), and a 4000 mAh battery.

The Tab 3 was clearly built with little hands in mind and measures 4.3 x 7.4 x 0.38 inches and weighs just 0.66 pounds. Samsung has built a child friendly UI over the Android 4.1 OS which is intended to draw attention to a large number of preloaded games and educational activities. Additional features include a Kids App Store and an unrestricted parents mode which can be used to set limits, choose which apps are available, and set time restrictions for the kids mode.

The Galaxy Tab 3 Kids 7.0 can be pre-ordered starting November 1st. It is also expected to be available in stores from November 10th, just in time for the holidays. Prices start at US$230. An optional case and stylus will also be available.
