The frantic pace of price drops in the SSD market has noticeably slowed down over the past couple of months, but prices of many sought-after M.2 modules still remain near their all-time lows. Therefore, deal hunters who are in need of more storage might want to consider an ongoing Amazon sale of the popular Samsung 990 Pro and its 2TB variant in particular.
To be more precise, the Seattle-based e-commerce giant is currently selling the regular Samsung 990 Pro SSD, which does not have a stock heatsink but comes with 2TB of storage capacity, for US$135 including free shipping for Prime subscribers and regular costumers. According to Camelcamelcamel's price history, this deal offers the second-lowest price ever for the NVMe SSD, and it constitutes a pretty significant discount of US$155 or 53 percent in comparison to the 990 Pro's official list price of US$290.
Even though the 990 Pro has become quite affordable, the Samsung SSD is still one of the fastest PCIe 4.0 storage modules on the market, which we confirmed in our hands-on review. It sports sequential read and write speeds of up to 7,350 and 6,900 MB/s, respectively. The 2TB SSD is also quite durable thanks to its TLC NAND, which should last at least 1,200 TBW according to the official spec sheet. Since the South Korean company had some firmware issues in the past, new owners should make sure to update the solid-state drive's software to the latest version via Samsung's easy-to-use Magician application. All in all, this deal may be US$5 more expensive than the lowest price ever, but it still offers an attractive price-performance ratio for storage enthusiasts.
