System76 has unveiled the Thelio Prime, a compact Linux desktop that combines AMD Ryzen 9000 desktop processors with up to 96 GB of DDR5 memory and optional dedicated graphics. The 11-liter system starts at $1,599 and will go on sale on November 18.
The Thelio Prime measures 288 × 148.9 × 281.9 mm and features an aluminum chassis with stainless steel details and a smoked-glass front panel. System76 manufactures the enclosure and assembles the computer at its facility in Denver, Colorado. The system can be positioned vertically or horizontally by moving its magnetic feet.
System76 confirms support for AMD Ryzen 9000 desktop processors, although it has yet to provide a complete list of available CPU configurations. Graphics options include integrated AMD Radeon graphics and dedicated GPUs from AMD and Nvidia. The company's promotional material also shows a configuration with an Nvidia RTX graphics card.
The compact desktop supports up to 96 GB of dual-channel DDR5 memory and up to 16 (2 x 8) TB of NVMe storage across two M.2 slots, one supporting PCIe 5.0 and the other PCIe 4.0. System76 includes a 600 W 80 Plus-certified power supply and separates the CPU and GPU into different thermal chambers to manage heat inside the compact enclosure.
Connectivity includes 2.5 Gb Ethernet, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, USB Type-A and Type-C ports, an HDMI 2.1 output for integrated graphics and a BIOS Flashback button. Magnetic side panels provide tool-free access for cleaning and hardware upgrades.
Thelio Prime will ship with a choice of Pop!_OS 24.04 LTS, featuring the Cosmic desktop environment, or Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. System76 has confirmed the $1,599 starting price and November 18 launch date, but has yet to detail the hardware included in the base configuration or pricing for higher-end models.
