Hyundai's N Vision 74 Rolling Lab has apparently received the go-ahead for production. A Korean news publication claims that Hyundai will announce its production intentions on May 27. The retro-inspired N Vision 74 was a big hit with fans when Hyundai unveiled the concept car back in 2021, and it took a lot of inspiration from the 1974 Pony Coupe.

Hyundai will reportedly soon announce that the N Vision 74 concept car will enter production for sale to the public, according to a report by Korean outlet Money Today (via Car and Driver). Hyundai's futuristic sports coupe was widely praised for its aggressive looks and high-performance rear-wheel-drive power delivery that made it incredibly fun to drive.

The Hyundai N Vision 74 Rolling Lab was pitched as a research vehicle for Hyundai to test its alternative propulsion research. The vehicle was powered by a hydrogen-electric hybrid power train that delivered a whopping 670 hp to the rear wheels via a dual-motor setup that provided electronic torque vectoring. The combination of the hydrogen fuel cell and a 62.4-kWh battery in the floor of the vehicle produced a total of 600 km (~373 miles) of range.

Hydrogen fuel cell passenger vehicles are exceedingly rare, and a 62.4 kWh battery is plenty enough to deliver practical range figures in a modern electric vehicle. What's far more likely is that Hyundai releases the N Vision 74 as a plug-in electric vehicle. We won't have to wait long to find out, though, since the supposed reveal date is on May 27 at a proposed Pony Day that Hyundai will host at its Soul design studio.

Hyundai's 2023 electric offerings have all been based on the E-GMP platform, which has seen vehicles ranging from the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 to the Kona EV, illustrating just how versatile the platform is. The N Vision 74 comes in a hair under the Ioniq 6 when it comes to wheelbase, so it's easy to see how a modern electric Pony Coupe could spring from the E-GMP platform.

It is implied that the N Vision 74 will be produced under the Pony Coupe banner, sort of paying homage to the Pony Coupe concept from 1974 once more. It's worth noting that Money Today doesn't provide a concrete source for this information, instead only claiming to have spoken to industry insiders, so it's best to exercise caution with rumours like this.
