Hurricane Helene devastated many parts of the US over the weekend with heavy flooding and destruction. However, a Rivian R1T owner was pleasantly surprised to find his truck operational after being dragged a significant distance.

In a video posted to Facebook, Micheal, an Ashville, North Carolina resident, detailed the hurricane's impact on his truck. Much to his surprise, he found that it was fully operational, if not covered in a thick coat of mud. On Thursday before the Hurricane, Micheal claims he parked the truck outside a U-Haul store on Swannanoa River Road in Asheville. After Hurricane Helene had passed Saturday afternoon, Micheal returned to the area to find that the 7,000 pound vehicle had floated down the street to a Walgreens on the same road. However, Micheal states that he did not witness the truck floating and that it was simply not where he had parked it. Upon initial inspection, Micheal suspected the truck was totaled, but as he approached the vehicle, he found the handles unlocked and could start the R1T without any issues.

Rivian designed the R1T with outdoor capabilities in mind. The truck is touted as being able to handle rock crawling, deep sand, and snow with its variety of drive modes. Additionally, Rivian states on its website that all of its adventure-oriented vehicles are designed with extreme conditions in mind. The R1T specifically has a rated water fording height of 43.1 inches, but one can reasonably suspect that this figure does not account for the truck's ability to float a little ways further.
