Instead of just moving the NACS charging port on the Tesla side like Rivian with the upcoming R2, Lucid's electric SUV will do one better.

Lucid, which just got a $1.5 billion financial injection from the Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth fund, will be splurging on two charging ports for its upcoming Gravity model.

Instead of relocating the NACS charging port over fan pressure, like Rivian is doing with the R2, Lucid simply placed it where Tesla has it in the first place.

Lucid's inaugural SUV, however, will also sport a CCS charging port at the front on the driver's side, so there will be no need to lug adapters, unhitch a trailer, or charge at end units.

Offering both a NACS and a CCS charging port would undoubtedly add to the manufacturing costs of the Gravity, though, yet the extra expense may have already been factored in the $80,000 price announced.

Lucid is still losing money on every vehicle it makes anyway, and goes on thanks to the financial injections of the wealth fund, so production costs probably aren't its main criteria when entering a new electric vehicle category.

Rivian, on the other hand, has reportedly heard the future R2 SUV owners, and may be moving its NACS charging port to the driver's side rear, where it will be easier to top up at Tesla's Superchargers.

Needless to say, not everyone is happy about the rumored change, as there are those who would find a front passenger side port location more convenient for both towing and Superchargers.

Compared to the previous rear location, however, a driver's side placement will be better, at least until Tesla's V4 Superchargers take over from the older V2 and V3 piles with shorter cables.
