Reliance and Nvidia are partnering to build AI infrastructure in India
First announced in September 2023, Nvidia has reiterated its commitment to create the bedrock for an AI infrastructure in India. It has partnered with Reliance Industries, a multinational conglomerate headquartered in Mumbai.
Speaking at Nvidia's AI Summit in Mumbai, Reliance Chairman Mukesh Ambani said, "This is an excellent opportunity for India" to have a "large population of computer engineers". The two companies will aim to build a scalable infrastructure capable of 1 gigawatt of power that will run on green energy.
"In order to lead an artificial intelligence, you need to have AI technology that India has, you need to have data and the last thing you need to have is AI infrastructure and we are announcing that Reliance and Nvidia are partnering to build AI infrastructure here in India," said Huang, as quoted by Mint.
Last year, the two companies promised to develop AI supercomputers in India to build large-scale LLMs trained in local languages. Nvidia will provide the technology, and Reliance will maintain the infrastructure. Besides Reliance, Nvidia has also announced partnerships with Indian IT firms, including Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), Tech Mahindra, Infosys and Wipro.
