The much-awaited BlackBerry PlayBook tablet by Research In Motion (RIM) was announced in end-September this year. It has been a long time ever since then and the company shows no signs of shipping it now or anytime soon.
However, according to a company official speaking on occasion of the earnings call conference, they don’t see the PlayBook to start shipping anytime before the 1st quarter of the 2011 fiscal year. This means that consumers can’t expect to lay their hands on one before March, the start of Q1 for the company. This coincides with RIM’s earlier announcement that the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet would see a launch in the first quarter of 2011.
RIM has also made clear that in the initial stages they would ship WiFi-only devices for the US, followed by launches in the other markets where the QNX-based tablet will add 3G or 4G connectivity modules.
