RIM promises equal or better battery life for the Playbook than that of iPad
According to a statement by RIM’s Senior Business Marketing VP, Jeff McDowell, the highly touted Blackberry Tablet will sustain battery life “equal or greater than the iPad with smaller battery size”. McDowell also suggested that skepticism of the Playbook’s battery life is “baseless” and promised the tablet will be compatible with over 4,000 third-party apps by the time it launches.
While the tablet’s battery life has come under criticism due to the lack of an official estimate, the VP’s comments may quell critics. Prior to this, the only word about the Playbook’s battery was a comment by RIM that it would last “all day”.
It is widely known that the iPad’s battery is one of its biggest strengths; achieving up to 10 hours of browsing over Wi-Fi, and 9 hours over 3G. If RIM is truly able to top the iPad’s battery life, then it could very well have an impact against Apple’s tablet giant.
