BlackBerry PlayBook nearing release, OS simulator released for developers

Teaser
The new tablet may be available as soon as next month in a Staples chain store

A recent leak from CrackBerry lists upcoming Staples releases, most notably an implication of a release date for the BlackBerry PlayBook. While the official launch date is still unknown, Staples employees will apparently be getting familiar with the PlayBook next month on March 16th in order to prepare for a supposed release soon after.

Additionally, RIM has just released a free BlackBerry Tablet OS simulator aimed at developers for testing and running custom-built apps or Flash-based games and websites. This downloadable simulator may be a preemptive move by the company in order to ensure a healthy selection of apps as it allows developers to build apps for the PlayBook before the tablet actually releases. RIM is even encouraging developers to jump in by offering a free PlayBook to a random person who submits a qualifying app to Blackberry’s app store, called the BlackBerry App World.

More details on the BlackBerry PlayBook, including its features and official release date, may be announced next week at the Mobile World Conference.
