OnePlus may have only recently unveiled the 8T, but sightings of its successors continue to appear online. On the one hand, 91Mobiles claims to have received the first CAD render of the OnePlus 9, which it has published on its website. Max Jambor of AllAboutSamsung is unconvinced by the render, but 91Mobiles has a reputation for publishing accurate smartphone leaks.
According to 91Mobiles, the OnePlus 9 will have a flat display, like the OnePlus 8T. However, the screen will be larger than the 6.55-inch panel that OnePlus used in the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8T. 91Mobiles claims that the display in the OnePlus 9 will operate at up to 120 Hz though, contrary to previous leaks. The punch-hole from the OnePlus 8 series will return, but a 32 MP camera will sit behind it, rather than the 16 MP one used this year.
The OnePlus 9 will supposedly have a curved back panel too, within which there will be three rear-facing cameras and an LED flash. The primary camera has been upgraded to a 64 MP sensor, according to 91Mobiles, which OnePlus will complement with 16 MP secondary and 8 MP tertiary cameras. 91Mobiles has not revealed what these cameras are, but we suspect that the 16 MP one will be an ultra-wide-angle lens, with the 8 MP sensor a telephoto camera.
A 5,000 mAh battery will underpin the OnePlus 9, and is expected to power a Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 chipset. Two Geekbench listings have seemingly confirmed the inclusion of the latter, although we would not read too much into the scores for the time being. There is a chance that the two listings have been faked or doctored, but the LE2117 is believed to be the OnePlus 9.
The listings show that the LE2117 has a Qualcomm lahaina motherboard and a 'ARM implementer 65 architecture 8 variant 1 part 3396 revision 0' motherboard, which both correspond to previous leaks about the Snapdragon 875. The LE2117 also has 8 GB of RAM, but we would expect OnePlus to release at least a 12 GB SKU when it announces the OnePlus 9 series. The company is expected to unveil the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro in March 2021.
