Power plugs are so 2024: This Honor phone lasts an amazingly long time

11,000 mAh—that number really makes heads turn, especially in a smartphone. It refers to the battery capacity of the Honor X80 Pro Max, a mid-range phone that’s currently available almost exclusively as a Chinese import—for example, from TradingShenzhen starting at US$ 463.

Two days on a single charge? No problem!

With this extremely high-capacity battery, the phone lasts a very long time: We measured over 29 hours in our Wi-Fi test. If you’re awake for about 12 hours a day, it should easily last two days, even with constant use. There’s hardly any other smartphone from recent years that can keep up here, especially not in this affordable price range.

On top of that, it features fast charging of up to 90 watts and the advantage that imported devices usually come with a charger—which is also the case here.

It still looks very sleek

And then there’s another unique feature of the Honor X80 Pro Max: Despite its massive battery, it’s not a bulky smartphone—it’s just 8 millimeters thick and weighs only 203 grams. Sure, there are even lighter devices, but some of them only last half as long.

Honor has also come up with some innovative features: The Honor X80 Pro Max even includes Wi-Fi 7, though the speeds don’t quite live up to expectations. It’s quite possible that Honor simply reduced the number of antennas to cut costs.

As for the display, you get an extremely bright AMOLED screen that could easily be found in much more expensive phones.

There is one problem, though

So where did Honor cut corners? Unfortunately, in one area that will disappoint many users: the camera.

We can’t even remember the last time we tested a mid-range smartphone that actually had just a single rear camera. At least the Honor X80 Pro Max takes reasonably sharp photos, but when it comes to zoom, the quality is rather lackluster.
