Pokémon classics get new features via companion app including cross-game PC

While Nintendo is reportedly working on releasing Pokémon FireRed and Pokémon LeafGreen for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2, developer Sebastian Santabarbara has released an open-source app that is intended to add a range of useful features to third-gen Pokémon games.
The software is called PKsinew and can be opened at any time while playing Pokémon FireRed, Pokémon LeafGreen, Pokémon Ruby, Pokémon Sapphire or Pokémon Emerald by pressing the Start and Select buttons at the same time. The app offers a range of useful features that are supposed to make these Pokémon classics more convenient. It starts with a Pokédex that collects data across all games, which makes it easier to complete.

Moreover, the app provides additional data on Pokémon and allows them to be traded between games without needing multiple copies of a game and two Game Boys. The most interesting feature may be the PC system that lets gamers store up to 2,400 Pokémon in the app instead of just in individual games. Therefore, Pokémon can be managed independently of specific games and save files and sent to the desired game as needed.
The app also adds achievements to Pokémon games. It is also possible to unlock event tickets that Nintendo only distributed for a limited time, for example to catch Mew, without any cheat codes or mods. PKsinew can be downloaded now on GitHub. For now, the app only runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and it requires a somewhat more cumbersome setup that is explained in the GitHub description.
