Pixelgate: Pixel 2 owners reporting Android Auto UI randomly crashing
The list of issues plaguing Google Pixel 2 owners shows no signs of abating at the moment. Fresh from offering users a one year extension on their warranties as well as some software fixes for issues ranging from the display to random audio clicking sounds, Pixel 2 owners are starting to report crashing issues when connected to the Android Auto interface in cars. The issue doesn’t appear to be related to particular models of cars or head units, but affects both the standard Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL.
Users are reporting that the devices seem to work fine for a short while and then disconnects or causes the Pixel 2 to freeze. Some are reporting that their Pixel 2s will crash immediately on connection. Users who also own other Android devices are reporting that when they plug those devices into their Android Auto-supported car, they are not experiencing any issues, but as soon as they plug their Pixel 2 back in the problems reoccur.
In response to user complaints on the official Pixel 2 Google Product forum, Google’s support teams have been asking users to capture a bug report and share it with Google. So far Google hasn’t been able offer workarounds or suggestions to its customers on how to address the problem. If and when the company issues a statement in response to the complaint, we will update this post.
