If you are a gaming enthusiast and want to find an adequate desktop replacement, you will most probably turn to one of the large notebook manufacturers. Nevertheless, there are also smaller but very “passionate” custom computer builders like Origin that you might consider buying from.
“Proudly” headquartered in Miami, FL, United States, Origin has reportedly been founded with the sole purpose to build high-performance custom PCs and deliver the best gaming experience. In addition, the company is still teamed up with Killer Paint and provides customers with the opportunity to individually design their notebook before the actual purchase (you can even put your personal logo on it).
The US-based company has first introduced the EON15 model back in 2010, but consumers can now order the updated EON15-S version with a Sandy Bridge chip and “a lightning fast” GPU.
Configuration
Origin’s 15.6-inch gaming powerhouse is powered by a choice of second generation Intel central processing units. The device can be ordered with up to a Sandy Bridge Intel Extreme Edition Core i7-2920XM CPU based on 32nm technology and clocked at 2.50GHz. Furthermore, this processor supports hyperthreading, has 55W max. TDP and is currently ranked 1 in our CPU Benchmark List.
The EON15-S ships with a Full HD LED-backlit widescreen display, which has a maximum supported resolution of 1980-by-1080 pixels and is reportedly available in a glossy finish. Moreover, the system houses up to whopping 32GB of internal 1333MHz DDR3 memory and 500GB (up to a 750GB 7200rpm HDD) of storage capacity in form of a solid state drive. Graphics are taken care by an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 485M (Shader 5.0 and full DX 11 support) with a total of 2GB of GDDR5 VRAM.
Part of the standard configuration is also a dual layer Blu-Ray Combo Burner.
Connectivity
Staying connected is an important thing, especially when you have purchased an expensive high-performance notebook. The EON15-S will definitely not let you down thanks to the integrated Wireless LAN 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0 adapters. Additionally, customers will be able to take advantage of the 5 USB ports (2xUSB 3.0, 2xUSB 2.0 and 1xeSATA combo port), DVI-I and HDMI interface as well as the 9-in-1 card reader slot. Also available is a built-in 2.0MP web camera for video conferencing.
Other specs and pricing
Users can have Origin’s updated gaming notebook with up to a pre-installed copy of Microsoft’s Windows Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit operating system. Weight starts at 6.8lbs and there is an integrated 8-cell Smart Lithium-ion battery that is good for up to 100 minutes on a single charge.
Further features include a Kensington Lock and a fingerprint reader for enhanced security, high-definition audio, full-sized keyboard and an external TV Tuner. The EON15-S is now available to customer for purchase with a starting price (dependent on specification) of about US $1,600.
