Only 390g: Sigma unveils 50 – 120 mm f/2.8 zoom for Fujifilm, Sony and Canon

Sigma's latest zoom lens aims to impress not only with strong value for money, but above all with exceptionally compact dimensions. Despite offering a focal length range of 50 – 120 mm and a maximum aperture of f/2.8 at every focal length, the lens is just 9.9 cm long, with a diameter of 6.7 cm and a weight of 390 grams.
This makes the Sigma 50 – 120 mm f/2.8 DC OS almost two-thirds lighter than the Fujifilm 50 – 140 mm f/2.8 ($1,899 on Amazon). Since the lens is designed for cameras with APS-C sensors, its focal length is equivalent to 75 – 180 mm on a full-frame camera. Sigma therefore does not quite cover the range of a typical 70 – 200 mm professional zoom, but can offer a significantly lower price in return. According to Sigma, the zoom lens is also perfect for portraits, not least thanks to its smooth bokeh.
Depending on the focal length, subjects can be focused on from a minimum distance of 23 to 55 centimeters, enabling a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3 to 1:4.7. Despite the affordable price, Sigma uses a complex construction of 18 elements in 13 groups, including elements with aspherical surfaces as well as FLD and SLD elements. Sigma incorporates an HLA linear motor for fast autofocus and its proprietary OS2 optical image stabilization. The housing is protected against dust and splashes. The 55-millimeter thread allows standard filters to be used.
