The inevitable successor to the OnePlus 2 is making headlines again, but this latest bit of news is essentially a confirmation of its impending launch. The OnePlus 3 has now been spotted at TENAA with a 5.5-inch AMOLED FHD display, Snapdragon 820 SoC, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB eMMC, metal or metallic body, 16 MP rear and 8 MP front cameras, and a 3000 mAh battery. Android 6.0.1 will be pre-installed alongside Oxygen OS, but Evan Blass from @evLeaks is claiming that the company is already hard at work on a version with Android N to hasten future OTA rollouts.
One disappointing aspect of the specifications may be its 1080p resolution display. The flagship smartphone trend favors QHD panels and it remains to be seen how a 1080p display from the OnePlus 3 in VR mode can compete against the Samsung Gear VR and its higher resolution Galaxy smartphones. Previous rumors claim a launch price of just 300 Euros for the OnePlus 2 successor compared to over twice that price for the latest Galaxy S smartphone, so cut corners may be inevitable.
OnePlus is expected to formally unveil the OnePlus 3 this coming June 14th with a focus on VR interactivity.
