Well-padded design
The earcups are labeled in white on a vivid red background and feature distinctive faceplates. They swivel in all directions for flexible wear, including one-handed monitoring. DJ SUZE provided professional input and found the Studio Max 1 "easy to wear for hours" thanks to its comfortable earcup and headband padding.
Simple controls
DJ-optimized sound
The first impression upon hearing the OneOdio headphones is their impressive clarity. Unlike headphones designed for music enjoyment, the Studio Max 1 does not smooth out the instruments or place them behind the vocals; instead, it presents each instrument and singer in their own space up close, making it easy to focus on individual elements, including each syllable and note. For example, in Dua Lipa’s Levitating, from 1:48 onward, it clearly separates all the background drums and synths from the vocals for precise monitoring.
“The OneOdio Studio Max 1 Headphones offer amazing drum and bass sounds, two of the most important pieces I listen for while mixing,” according to DJ SUZE (@iamdjsuze on Instagram and YouTube). The SoCal-based DJ explains how the Max 1 helps her perform better:
“Specifically the bass and drums are more audible, making it much easier to create clean transitions. For example, mixing two of my favorite songs Break Free by Ariana Grande and Rush by Troye Sivan, I need to clearly hear the drums of the first song as I am playing the second song on the beat drop without fading in. This requires Rush to be played in perfect timing with the beat of Break Free, which I do so by listening to the drum beat of Break Free and lining up Rush with that. To do so, I need to clearly hear the bass lines of both songs to ensure they’re meshing well.”
Versatile connections
DJs can work unencumbered thanks to the included wireless transmitter, which DJ SUZE says "can handle quick transitioning and beatmatching" thanks to its ultra-low ~20 ms latency. She experienced no noticeable lag while working with the Studio Max 1, allowing her to "freely jam out" without tangles.
The transmitter connects to sources with a cable. A press of the transmitter’s power button, followed by a press of the headphone’s Wireless Mode button, automatically establishes a low-latency headphone connection. The Studio Max 1 can still be used with an audio cable when the headphone or transmitter battery runs out after days of use.
Bluetooth phone connections are supported using the SBC, AAC, or Hi-Res Audio LDAC codec with a ~400 ms latency. Office call quality was good thanks to noise-cancelling microphones.
Conclusion
The Studio Max 1 exposes all instruments and vocals with surprising clarity, much like being at an NPR Tiny Desk concert. While not tuned for relaxing enjoyment, it provides the musical-element separation needed for accurate fade-free transitions, even in loud clubs.
