Baldur's Gate 3 undoubtedly put Larian Studios in the spotlight, with the game boasting of five-digit player counts even two years after launch. While many might consider that to be Larian's best work, its previous offering (Divinity: Original Sin 2) was also a masterpiece.
In Divinity: Original Sin 2, you find yourself imprisoned on a ship that serves as the game's tutorial area. As is the case with most video games, calamity befalls your vessel, and you're stranded on an island. Here, you have to gather your companions to embark on a story-rich journey with branching plot lines and turn-based combat.
If you're familiar with Baldur's Gate 3, you'll feel right at home with Divinity: Original Sin 2. Its character creator offers multiple customization options that you can spend hours on. For your first play through, it is better if you pick one of the 'origins' character. Once you've familiarized yourself with the game's mechanics, feel free to mix and match races and classes for intriguing results.
Typically, players take about 60 hours to beat Divinity: Original Sin 2's campaign. But its world is packed to the brim with secrets, and if you intend to explore them all, that number can go as high as 156 hours. This, combined with its numerous choices and character creation options, can easily get you hundreds of hours of entertainment.
As a 2017 game, Divinity: Original Sin 2 doesn't demand much in the way of hardware requirements. It can easily run on any PC built in the past 10 years, and, by extension, even handheld consoles. It is Steam Deck verified, so you can play it on the road. There are plenty of multi-player options, such as online co-op and even split-screen co-op.
You can buy the game on Steam for $13.49 (or equivalent local currency). That isn't the cheapest it has ever been, it is just a dollar off its lowest price. If you have a few dollars extra, you can get the Eternal Edition, which includes older games in the series such as Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition, Divinity 2, Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity.
This promotion is valid until June 9, so you have some time before committing to a purchase. Even if you decided to sit this one out, the game goes on sale pretty often, so you can always pick it up later.
