Nextbit decided to launch a CDMA variant of its crowdfunded Android handset known as Robin after starting the 30-days long Kickstarter campaign behind it. Unfortunately, the initial expectations were too high, and it looks like Nextbit Robin is not going to show up in the US offering CDMA support anytime soon.
According to a letter sent by Nextbit CEO Tom Moss to the backers of this handset, "at this point, we think it is better to cancel this version rather than continue to try and make progress with no clear answers to offer regarding when we would actually be able to ship."
Those who already backed the CDMA Robin will get a full refund by the end of the week and will also receive a 25% discount code for the GSM-certified variant. Even better, these codes can be passed to family or friends. We can only hope that both Verizon and Sprint will get the CDMA-enabled Robin some day in the future.
