After the P27iX, Nitecore has now officially launched the smaller P17iX model with a slight delay. It is already in stock in some markets and costs less than the model with the larger lamp head.

The Nitecore P17iX is now available. The smaller sibling of the P27iX, which we have already reviewed, is already in stock at some retailers and costs around $129. That is about $30 less than the P27iX. In terms of design, the two flashlights are barely different. Both use a replaceable 21700 battery like the Nitecore NL2155HPi. The battery is charged via the protected USB-C port on the flashlight.

Alternatively, CR123 cells can be used. The extensive and configurable controls are also identical, down to the layout of the buttons and the protective slide switch for locking the flashlight. Anyone familiar with the P27iX should therefore have no trouble using the smaller P17iX.

As before, there is a floodlight and a spotlight that can be activated briefly until the flashlight gets too hot. There are also constant-on modes. The difference is still significant, even though both flashlights are formally rated at 5,000 lumens. However, the P17iX beam does not reach as far and offers a range of only 1,083 feet. The 27 model reaches 328 feet farther. Since the P17iX head is smaller, it is also 0.8 oz lighter and weighs 3.6 oz including the battery, according to the manufacturer.

Battery life in the lowest mode (15 lumens) is around 100 hours. In turbo mode at 1,500 lumens, the P17iX lasts half an hour longer and therefore manages at least 3 hours of runtime. The model is very rugged and IP68-rated. Brief immersion is also permitted, down to a depth of 6.6 feet. According to Nitecore, drops from up to 6.6 feet are also possible.
