Nintendo is drumming up hype for Donkey Kong Bananza’s release later this week in more ways than one, turning to social media with a clip as a teaser. The company released a short clip on X and the Nintendo app, highlighting a three-day countdown to the highly anticipated game’s launch. 

The hype surrounding Donkey Kong Bananza continues to build with the July 17 release on the Nintendo Switch 2 being right around the corner, fueled by a string of hands-on previews and reveals that have the fanbase talking.

Nintendo’s marketing for Donkey Kong Bananza arrives at a crucial moment, as physical copies of the title are already out in the wild. Many Switch 2 owners have shared images of their early physical copies on social media and r/Switch. 

With that said, spoilers and screenshots of the game are already circulating online, so fans should beware and tread social media carefully if they want their Donkey Kong Bananza experience to be spoiler-free.

Donkey Kong Bananza’s journey started as a relatively low-key announcement that garnered more anticipation than the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2 itself. Another key factor behind the hype surrounding the upcoming title is the development team behind Donkey Kong Bananza.

The director of Super Mario Odyssey, Kenta Motokura, is serving as the producer, while Kazuya Takahashi, who joined Nintendo in 2020, is the director of the project. While director Kazuya Takahashi admits the voxel-based technology affects performance, the main priority of the game’s direction is player satisfaction and fun. 

Reports so far suggest that the game runs smoothly on the Nintendo Switch 2 until environmental destruction and explosions clutter the screen, causing frame dips.

In the upcoming Switch 2 title, a long-time series favorite, Pauline, will be joining Donkey Kong in this voxel-based 3D platformer.

With only three days left to launch, players are advised to avoid the minefield of spoilers online. Donkey Kong Bananza will officially release on the Nintendo Switch 2 this Thursday, July 17.
