The soon-to-launch Nintendo Switch Sports game will likely feature AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) image upscaling when the Switch is connected to a 1080p display. Evidence for this was found in the EULA of the Switch Sports game that is slated to launch in the coming weeks.

Nintendo Switch Sports is an upcoming sports game package for the Switch console. Switch Sports is a collection of sports games including Badminton, Bowling, Chambara, Soccer, Tennis, and Volleyball. Golf will be added in a post-launch update some time in Fall 2022. We are now getting to know that Switch Sports will support AMD FidelityFX and FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) technologies.

AMD FSR support has not been officially confirmed by Nintendo so far. However, @NWPlayer123 on Twitter spotted references to FidelityFX and FSR in the licensing information for the Switch Sports game. This implies that FSR will be enabled in the game either at launch or some time down the line. It is not exactly clear how the Switch will make use of FSR, but it isn't hard to guess that the technology will come into play while playing on a 1080p display.

The Nintendo Switch uses an Nvidia Tegra X1+ SoC, that does not support any form of Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) tech. However, it is interesting that FSR can still be enabled on this chip. This is because FSR does not require any special hardware or dedicated machine learning cores and is more of a math-based alternative to DLSS.

In any case, this enables the Switch to render the game at a lower resolution and effectively upscale it to 1080p. It may also help prolong the life of the console for a bit longer, which is a good thing. We expect the next generation Switch Pro or Switch 2 to feature an Nvidia Orin SoC with a Lovelace GPU, which should provide support for 4K and DLSS, but that's speculation for now.
