CheckMag | Nintendo Switch 2: Top 5 features the trailer confirmed

The Nintendo Switch 2 is finally here, and the trailer reveals several upgrades that take the console to a whole new level. From a larger screen to improved visual design, here is our take on what the top 5 new features of the updated and upgraded handheld are.
1. A larger screen
The most notable upgrade is the Switch 2’s larger screen, set to provide more immersive gaming on the go. With slimmer bezels and improved display quality, players can expect vibrant visuals and a more engaging handheld experience.
2. Sleek, premium design
Nintendo has given the Switch 2 a modern, polished look that’s a step up from its predecessor. The console features a refined build with cleaner lines and improved ergonomics. The updated Joy-Con controllers complement this premium look with colorful accent colors.
3. Better ports
The announcement video confirms a major upgrade in the connectivity department: The inclusion of two USB-C ports. Located strategically alongside the 3.5 mm headphone jack, the new ports make charging, docking, and connecting accessories easier. This dual-port setup is a welcome improvement, especially for players who rely on multiple peripherals.
4. Improved kickstand
Nintendo has addressed one of the original Switch’s biggest drawbacks by introducing a redesigned kickstand. The new stand allows players to prop the console at many angles, making it far more convenient for tabletop gaming on the go. This feature should enable better shared gaming experiences as well as make it easier to just watch a few episodes of one's favorite TV show.
5. New Joy-Con attachment system
The new Joy-Con connection system replaces the old rail mechanism, making it easier to attach and detach the controllers. This updated design simplifies switching between handheld and docked modes and eliminates the risk of damaging the console or controllers when removing them, an issue some users experienced with the older rail system.
Combined with backward compatibility for digital and physical games (with some exceptions), the Switch 2 promises to be a worthy successor to the beloved first-gen handheld.
Fans won’t have to wait long as Nintendo has revealed additional details will come on April 2, 2025, during the Nintendo Direct presentation. The Switch 2 is set to launch later in the year.
