New strategy RPG arrives on Steam with launch discount, "Very Positive" reviews

Sengoku Rance released on Steam on 2 October 2026, twenty years after its original Japan-only debut. It has been developed by AliceSoft and published by Kagura Games alongside MangaGamer. You pay $24.99; currently, there's a 20% launch discount bringing it to $19.99. English, Japanese and Simplified Chinese are supported.
There is a well-regarded strategy game underneath all that reputation. Set in a comic version of Sengoku-period Japan, it casts players as Rance, who inherits command of the Oda clan from an ailing Oda Nobunaga and sets out to unify the country. Turns are mostly spent managing territories, recruiting commanders and gathering resources. Battles decided by troop composition and adapting to enemy formations. Dungeon exploration, equipment hunting and branching story events sit alongside that, and multiple routes allow progress to carry between playthroughs to unlock further content.
The content situation is the more "newsworthy" part. Rance is an eroge series — it has been long criticized for its depictions of sexual coercion — the protagonist is written as an unapologetic villain. The Steam release is not listed as an adult title, and its content descriptor does cite strong language, violence, blood, alcohol and non-explicit sexual content. Kagura Games sells a separate patch through its own storefront that restores the removed material. Just so you know, this is standard practice for the publisher — the secondary title comes with a note that it may only be used outside Japan.
However, that did draw attention when the store page first went live in January. Commentators added that Steam has historically rejected titles of this kind. Six more Rance games are planned — Rance 01 + 02, Rance 03, Rance IV, Rance Quest Magnum, Rance IX and Rance X — none yet dated.
Requirements are negligible: Windows 8 or later, a 2 GHz processor, 4 GB of RAM, DirectX 9.0 and 4 GB of storage.
