Mcdodo has showcased its new cables that are primarily intended for resellers. One of them features a large touchscreen display and is unlikely to be particularly expensive when it hits stores.

In recent years, Mcdodo has grown from a basic cable manufacturer known for putting displays in connectors into a broader supplier of charging products. Cables remain a key part of its business and the company showcased several new models at IFA 2026. One of the more interesting products was the so-called "240 W USB-C to USB-C Cable with TFT Screen Display".

The touchscreen is not built directly into the connector but positioned along the cable itself. Many cable manufacturers use this design when they want to display more information. A touch-sensitive area next to the screen supports swipe gestures, based on our brief test. Unfortunately, the display appears better suited to indoor use. It was almost impossible to read under the bright lighting at the booth, although the official images show what users can expect.

The cable supports USB PD at its maximum power level and can display voltage and current alongside wattage. However, it is probably not particularly useful as a data cable, as Mcdodo does not specify a transfer rate. It should also come as no surprise that a cable like this is not USB-IF certified.

Since AI is now virtually unavoidable at IFA, particularly when pitching products to potential buyers, Mcdodo also labeled the cable "AI Smartcable" at its booth. That name does not appear in the catalog, suggesting that it is primarily intended to impress prospective retail buyers. During our test, we could not identify any feature for which AI would be relevant.

The cable is expected to launch in October. Mcdodo could not provide a retail price, instead quoting a wholesale price of $7.70 directly from the manufacturer. We estimate that the cable will retail for around $20 to $30. These cables with displays might become available on Amazon sooner or later.
