New Model Y Diamond Black color gets filmed from up close for the first time revealing a gemstone finish

When Tesla launched the regular version of the new Model Y that is not part of the expensive Launch Series bundle in the US, it introduced a new and exclusive Diamond Black color for it.

This fresh Diamond Black color option costs $1,500 extra, but brings with it a "deep jet black with variations of sparkle and refined flake appearance," as per Tesla's copious description of the new Model Y hue.

Instead of rendered promo pictures of the Diamond Black Model Y, however, now the US-exclusive color has been captured on video from a closer and more personal distance.

Someone managed to film the 2026 Model Y in the new coat of Diamond Black paint while it was charging near the public showroom floor of Tesla's Fremont factory, and has posted the close-up video together with a photo from a farther distance.

The Diamond Black color footage reveals a much more complex finish than Tesla's previous black color efforts that were much simpler and didn't really differ when viewed from afar or from up close.

The new hue does indeed sparkle like diamond facets when the light shines upon them directly, though more footage will be needed to discover the purported "refined flake appearance" that Tesla ascribes to it.

The $1,500 Diamond Black Model Y color can be paired with a $1,000 Black and White interior option, too, for the ultimate of unorthodox but classy appearance. Tesla also released a number of fresh high-res photos of the 2026 Model Y, including some night shots of the Diamond Black color and the new interior.

While the new Model Y was still in its Launch Series edition phase, Tesla quickly ran out of the white interior option, though, and the funky new Diamond Black with Black and White interior combo may soon suffer a similar fate.
