Apple's wearable device has faced a lot of criticism lately due to a lack of security features. Stealing an Apple Watch is just as difficult as stealing a regular watch, but many are arguing that this should not be the case. 9to5Mac has allegedly spoken to a credible source, and believes that a new update largely focused on security features will be pushed to all Apple Watch editions soon.
According to the site's source, Find my Watch will make its debut. Apple has similar apps for its laptops, phones, and tablets, so it makes sense why Find my Watch is the logical choice for security. The feature will reportedly allow the use of Smart Leashing to use the wireless signal of the Watch to show its location relative to the iPhone it is tethered to. This will make locating the lost wearable easier to locate, and it may send a notification to the iPhone, alerting the wearer that his or her Watch is no longer connected. It may also notify users with the Watch if they happen to leave their iPhones behind mistakenly. Lastly, Find my Watch is reported to allow locking or erasing everything on the wearable in the event that it is stolen.
The Apple Watch update might also include a few tweaks to the health and fitness app, and could even give third-party developers the power to create small companion widgets that will appear alongside watch faces. A release date for the update is not known, but assuming it is on the way, it could change a few minds about the Apple Watch.
