Microsoft Store now allows downloading apps directly from the website
Installing apps from the Microsoft Store has become a little easier with the new update. The company has made a big change to the web version, allowing users to download app executables directly from the website. As Rudy Huyn, the company's principal architect, described, this change will require fewer actions than before for app downloads.
To fill you in, if you were to install any app from the Microsoft Store before, you would need to make three clicks. One was for the website, another for the deep-link dialogue, and the last one for the mini-window popup. While this process made the app download experience a little tiresome, it was mainly there to combat malicious scripts.
But now, the "undocked version" of the Microsoft Store lets you download an app for your Windows system in two clicks. One is for downloading the package, and the other is for launching it. Rudy Huyn claims that initial feedback from early testers and developers is "extremely positive." This change in the web version has led to a "12% increase" in terms of app installations and a "54% increase in the number of applications launched" after installing them.
It's worth mentioning that not all the apps that Microsoft offers in its Store seem to support this new lightweight installation process. Some may still push you to the dedicated Windows app. Also, the standalone installers may not come as a complete package. They may require a download during installation.
