Model: The Medion Akoya P7641-MD99855 is an upper mid-range laptop. The laptop is designed and catered towards users who are looking for an all-around alternative to a desktop PC. The casing of the laptop is mostly covered in plastic which doesn’t look too good. It comes pre-installed with Microsoft Windows 10 Home Edition operating system, features an Intel Core i5-6200U processor (Turbo Boost: up to 2.8 GHz), an Nvidia GeForce 930M graphic card, 6 GB of DDR3L RAM, a 128 GB Solid State Disk and a 1 TB hard disk for media storage. Although there is a dedicated Nvidia GeForce 930M graphic card installed in the laptop, it is not really a gaming laptop and it may not be able to run current game titles in full resolution. There is also a pre-installed 30 days trial for Office 365 and a pre-installed 30 days trial for McAfee Live Safe in the laptop.
The laptop sports a 17.3-inches screen that is capable of displaying up to 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. The screen has a matte finish and it offers decent performance but may not be suitable for professional photographers as colors aren’t exactly accurate. The screen is suitable for surfing the web, playing high-resolution videos on YouTube and composing email messages. Due to its matte finish, it is really suitable to be used outdoors and under direct sunlight. The sound of the laptop is optimized by Dolby Certified Audio to provide a high-definition sound through the laptop’s built-in speakers. The sound is decent and the bass is audible to a certain extent. Its keyboard has a separate number pad which helps to simplify the typing experience of long strings of numbers in software such as Microsoft Excel. This is also useful for gaming. However, the keyboard does not have a backlight. Hence, it is difficult to use it in the dark or under low lighting conditions. The trackpad is quite responsive to all of Windows 10's multi-touch functions.
In terms of communication options, the laptop supports Wi-Fi 802.11ac technology and Bluetooth version 4.0. The ports and interfaces of the laptop include two USB 3.0 ports, a USB 3.0 port, an HDMI port, a VGA port, an RJ-45 port, an audio combo jack, a multi-format DVD or CD burner with Dual Layer and DVD-RAM support and a multi-card reader. With its battery, it has a bulky weight of 2.7 kg and its battery can last up to 4.5 hours as claimed by Medion. Based on another test, the laptop can last up to 7 hours by reducing the brightness and only running simple tasks. The good thing is that the battery can be replaced easily by just removing two screws from the back of the laptop hence allowing for a switch if the situation requires it. Overall, the Medion Akoya P7641-MD99855 will be able to serve well as an all-rounder alternative to a desktop PC due to its large screen size, changeable battery and a hardware specification that can offer sufficient performance to meet everyday needs of an average user.

NVIDIA GeForce 930M: Maxwell based lower mid-range graphics card. The card is based on the GeForce 840M with 384 shaders but reduced core clock speed.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

6200U: Skylake-based ULV dual-core processor for thin notebooks and ultrabooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 520 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
2.7 kg:
With this weight, a laptop is rather heavier than average. Devices in this range shine more with screen size and performance than with mobility.
