The MSI Summit E16 Flip is a unique 2-in-1 laptop designed for creatives that stands out from the crowd thanks to MSI basing its design around the Golden Ratio. The device’s 360 degree hinge allows it to be used as a tablet or propped upright and the included MSI Pen which attaches magnetically to its side makes it easy to draw or take notes. Overall the MSI Summit E16 Flip is an excellent all-rounder for those looking for a business laptop that stands out from the crowd.

MSI’s 16” convertible Windows laptop has some enticing features like its QHD+ 120Hz wide gamut display supporting pen and touch, NVIDIA RTX 3050 / 3050 Ti graphics and a CNC aluminum chassis. The laptop has 360 degree hinges so it can transform into a large tablet, and it has goodies from the Intel 11th gen platform like a very fast PCIe4 SSD, Thunderbolt 4 and 2 USB-A Gen 2 ports. The laptop is available with 16GB or 32GB RAM, a 1 or 2TB SSD, fingerprint scanner and Killer Wi-Fi 6E.

The MSI Summit E16 Flip is a great-looking and well-built convertible 2-in-1 with an outstanding 16-inch 16:10 display. It’s large and uncomfortable as a tablet, but that’s to be expected with such an expansive display. It performs admirably as a workhorse productivity machine, and it can handle entry-level creative tasks as well. The keyboard is very good, but the touchpad is way too small given the available real estate. MSI has made one of the better large-format convertible 2-in-1s you can buy. If you’re in the market for a flexible machine that can handle serious work, then the Summit E16 Flip should be on your list.

I liked the MSI Summit E13 Flip quite a bit, particularly the modern aesthetic, excellent battery life, and solid performance. It proved that MSI can make an excellent productivity-oriented convertible 2-in-1 to go with their popular gaming laptops, even if the price was a bit high. MSI has a larger version of the machine, the Summit E16 Flip, that not only expands the 16:10 display from 13.4 inches to 16 inches but adds in a discrete GPU by way of Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 3050. It has a similar look and feel, but is aimed more at creators who can use the extra power a GPU can provide to applications that can use it, like Adobe’s creative suite. I reviewed the top-end Summit E16 Flip with a Core i7-1195G7 CPU and the RTX 3050 that has a retail price of $2,299. The three available models vary only in their RAM and storage, with the review unit being the top model with 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD. Like with the 13-inch model, the Summit E16 Flip is a bit expensive — but I found enough to like about the machine to justify the investment.

As much as we love the expansive 16-inch 16:10 display in laptop mode, we caution you from lumping the MSI Summit E16 Flip in with the rest of the 2-in-1 business convertible crowd. We’ve seen smaller convertibles like the Lenovo Yoga 9i and the Microsoft Surface Laptop Studio that provide less screen real estate but greater versatility because they feel more natural in tablet mode. The Summit E16 Flip, in contrast, is a convertible that converts between a luxuriously large laptop and content-creation tablet for drawing or sketching or otherwise using a specific graphics program. You will not want to navigate Windows or browse the Web in tablet mode on the Flip with any great frequency. As a laptop, the Flip is impressively thin and fairly portable, given the size of its display. The display is big and bright with a high resolution, but the HP Spectre x360 16 convertible and the Asus VivoBook Pro 16X laptop are similar 16-inch 16:10 models around the same price that serve up an OLED display, which is a feature we’d imagine is higher on any creative pro’s wish list for their next laptop.

Calling this a business laptop undersells what it’s capable of: the Summit E16 is a workstation laptop, fit for creative professionals who need as much power and premium features that can fit in a slim chassis as possible. It’s certainly not a cheap laptop at about $2,000, but it’s an excellent value if you need a machine that can work as a 16-inch tablet with a 1600p HDR-capable screen, has enough power to use 3D modeling software for simpler sculpts and models, and still serves as an awesome Ultrabook. The Summit E16 is reasonably priced for its feature set, but if you don’t do 3D work you could get away with a cheaper 2-in-1 like the excellent Lenovo Yoga 9i we reviewed. The Asus ROG Flow Z13 is another excellent option since it’s a Windows tablet with just as much power as the Summit E16—but you will have to give up the amazing display. On the other hand, if you’re more interested in the performance than the form factor, the Dell XPS 17 is a sturdy laptop that has an incredible 4K screen and a better battery life.

The Summit E16 Flip offers a 16-inch touchscreen display in the more office-friendly 16:10 format, Thunderbolt 4, and a dedicated GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU. The touchscreen can be operated with fingers or the included MSI input pen.

MSI's affordable hybrid outpaces its rivals when it comes to computing ability and delivers all-day battery life. Combine that with the sturdy, 360-degree design and reasonable screen and you've got a laptop for all-day office collaboration. At this price there's bound to be compromise, and here it comes from the underwhelming screen and speakers – the former is only acceptable for everyday work tasks and the latter delivers poor audio. The Summit is heavier than its more expensive competitors, too. At this price, though, those compromises are acceptable – especially if you don't need a lightweight laptop for creative workloads. The Summit isn't perfect, but it's a good office hybrid.

The MSI Summit E16 Flip Evo is a great all-round desktop replacer laptop that also functions well as larger portable thanks to its mostly reasonably weight and, with the right mode, long battery life. Its keyboard is decent, the 360-degree hinge is well implemented and the performance is great. The screen and touchpad are bettered elsewhere, though. This panel’s contrast is a little limited, the resolution is beginning to look dated and maximum brightness is unremarkable, although the high refresh rate is nice to have.

This range for display formats was and is a rarity. It is larger than the general standard of 15 inches, but not yet in the range of large workstations. One usually has higher screen resolutions available, but portability suffers from that.
