The gaming performance is decent too thanks to MSI’s pairing of the Intel Core i7-11800H 8-core-16-thread CPU and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX3060 Laptop GPU. Especially when we compare results to the Stealth 15M we reviewed recently. Though in fairness, the chassis of the Katana GF66 is 8mm’s thicker providing more cooling potential and the core and thread count of the CPU’s on offer is doubled in the Katana GF66’s favour, with 8-cores 16-threads vs 4-cores 8-threads.

Wrapping up this review of the MSI Katana GF66 (11UE), I’d say it’s certainly not the best value gaming laptop for the price. At least not here in Nepal. Its subtle-but-weak design, comparatively less powerful GPU, and horrendous battery life are outclassed by the competition like Acer’s Predator Helios 300 (2021) that’s superior in all these aspects. Yes, it bears a more aggressive design but if you can look past that, it’s a superior device through and through. Not to mention, the Helios 300 has a much better QHD screen with 100% DCI-P3 color coverage as well.

Though we wish the MSI Katana GF66 had a more vivid screen, a little more CPU muscle, and longer battery life, none of those flaws stops it from being a respectable budget gaming laptop. It offers GeForce RTX 3060 graphics at an RTX 3050 Ti (or even regular RTX 3050) price, and that GPU helps it make the most of its 144Hz display. That's a rare achievement for a laptop in this price class, and equally unusual for the money is its roomy 1TB solid-state drive, well suited to the ballooning sizes of today's game installs. All told, the Katana GF66 is a standout value and earns an Editors' Choice award for cash-strapped gamers' consideration.

There’s not a lot going for the MSI Katana GF66 apart from its strong performance. It overcame its competitors in most of our CPU and GPU benchmarks. But that’s not enough when the GF66 falters when it comes to the key pillars of a gaming laptop. The display is dull, the battery life is shorter than a feature film, and it’s not nearly as portable as other laptops. For the same price, you can pick up the Acer Predator Triton 300 SE, which features 6-plus hours of battery life, a colorful display and a sleek chassis. However, it didn’t perform as well as the Katana. Overall, the MSI Katana GF66 isn’t a terrible choice if you want to prioritize performance, but you can do much better for the price.

15.60":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.

70.5%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
