Gaming Power. After bringing a multitude of mid-grade graphics cards to the market, Nvidia is finally showcasing its new high-end GeForce 500 series. The MSI GT780R will be one of the first notebooks to boast the GTX 560M. But can the MSI truly set itself apart from other gaming notebooks?

So if you really want a powerful desktop replacement laptop, without wanting to use it on your laps, the MSI GT780R is one of the best machines out there. It’s incredibly fast, maybe not as fast as some laptops with SLI configurations, but then again the noise levels are acceptably low, and you’re not really going to hurt your bank account with it either.

The GX780R is a definite improvement over MSI’s earlier gaming notebooks, but it’s not quite there, yet. At Rs.1,20,000, it’s still very expensive and the fact is, it doesn't look or feel like a premium notebook. It has some good things going for it like good audio quality, multi-coloured backlit keyboard, good set of hardware components and multi-channel audio out. Having said that, the build quality is still questionable, as the plastics feel too flimsy and weak. Also, for this price, you don’t get a Blu-ray drive. The battery life is below average and the keyboard feels a bit cramped. The Dell XPS 17 will give you the same features and performance for a lot less, plus you get 3DVision support as well and the build quality and design is miles ahead.

Life for laptop-bound gamers just keeps getting better. A keyboard that looks (and feels) awesome, along with powerful sound and very good graphics performance, sets MSI's biggest gaming rig apart. For well under $2,000, it’s ideal for gamers looking for an alternative to a pricey boutique-built machine.

The GT780DXR is certainly a very capable gaming laptop combining excellent processor performance with a first rate gaming experience thanks to the Nvidia GTX570 discrete solution, shipping with a generous 1.5GB of GDDR5 memory. Even though we received a very early prototype, the build quality didn’t cause concerns, and the understated, yet sturdy chassis design appealed to me. It looks as if it could withstand some long term LAN gaming abuse, and will find a home among demanding mobile gamers.

There's nothing particularly ingenious about MSI's GT780DXR; it's a gaming laptop that's big in size and big on power. But what's interesting here is that after years of trial and error, MSI has fine-tuned its Gaming Series and delivered a system that, whilst short on unnecessary frills, gets almost all of the basics spot on.

Gaming powerhouse. MSI sends another gaming notebook into the race with its GT780DX. The 17 inch laptop has an anti-reflective screen and manages a Full HD resolution. The Intel quad core processor i7-2670QM and GTX 570M graphics card from Nvidia are to supply the user with the desired performance. Can the gaming notebook let gamers' hearts beat faster?

The gaming laptop market segment is awfully competitive and MSI is trying to edge out some of the bigger names with its GT740DXR-405US laptop. Its beautiful high resolution display with matte coating and high performance NVIDIA graphics make it great for mobile gaming. Add to this a slightly above average battery life and it certainly is a compelling option for those willing to spend up to $1700.

MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI) was founded in 1986 in Taiwan. MSI is especially known as a manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards for PCs, but also offers computer accessories, complete systems, motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, desktop PCs, monitors and other components. However, the Microstar brand name in Germany belongs to the Medion company. MSI is known for its gaming products and has developed a wide range of gaming laptops and desktop PCs. The company is also active in workstations, servers and industrial automation. MSI has offices in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M:
The successor of the GeForce GTX 460M based on the new GF116 chip. The performance is about 13% better than the 460M but with similar power requirements due to hardware optimizations.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570M: High-end mobile GPU based on a stripped down GF114 chip.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
2630QM: Fast Quad-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
2670QM: Fast Quad-core processor clocked at 2.2-3.1 GHz based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
Intel Core i5:
2410M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.6-2.9 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
3.8 kg:
A laptop with this weight is comparatively heavy and less designed for mobility than for use at the desk. Therefore, the devices tend to shine less with battery life than with a large screen and higher performance.
4 kg:
81.97%: This rating is slightly above average, there are somewhat more devices with worse ratings. However, clear purchase recommendations look different.
