Innovation, thy name is MSI. Integrating Tobii's eye-tracking system into one of MSI's iconic notebooks was a bold move that can potentially change the way you work and game. Delivering smooth, agile functionality, it largely pays off, mostly dodging the gimmick label. I say mostly because 29 games is a pretty small catalog, especially when only two of the titles are triple A.

MSI has outdone itself with this machine. The GT72 Dominator Pro Dragon Edition is a beautiful piece of technology any way you slice it, but beyond the attractive chassis lies a gaming force, waiting to be unleashed. For $3,099, you get a laptop that can play some of the most taxing games on the market with pretty, consistent frame rates.

Are there improvements to be made? Sure. As neat as it is to see 32GB in a laptop, I’d shave that in half for the savings because the vast majority of people just don’t need 32GB of RAM. While under a normal GPU load or even overclocked to 4GHz, the GT72S Dragon fan noise was reasonable—but on occasion, especially when coming out of standby, the fans would run at a loud full speed for a few seconds. And yeah, those trackpad buttons. I imagine the factory technician who calibrated them could lift a Buick with her thumbs if these felt normal to her.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
6820HK: Skylake-based quad-core processor for notebooks. Offers an integrated HD Graphics 530 GPU and is manufactured in 14 nm.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
17.30": This display size is a standard format for desktop replacements (DTR). The DTR laptops are heavier to carry, need more power, but texts are easy to read and high resolutions are no problem. DTR are mainly intended for stationary desk use, where weight and energy hunger don't matter. In return, you enjoy the advantages of high resolutions (more details, better legibility).» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
3.79 kg:
Only a few laptops are in this weight class because the mobility is rather limited due to the high weight.
MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI) was founded in 1986 in Taiwan.
