MSI's GT683R is definitely a powerful machine, but its peripherals (built-in as they are) leave something to be desired. This is a desktop replacement, so it's likely you'll have an external mouse, keyboard, and even speakers, but it'd be nice if these felt like an option rather than a necessity.

This is definitely one of the best gaming laptops currently available and it does that for a sub $2000 price. It has Nvidia’s latest notebook oriented video card and a Core i7 processor, as well as 12 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage, so we can easily say that this is a very solid configuration for gaming, at least for the next 12 to 18 months.

Overall, we were very pleased with the performance of the GeForce GTX 560M as well as the MSI GT683R in general. The notebook also includes a few extras such as Dynaudio and THX TruStudio Pro to enhance the multimedia experience. If you like the aggressive aesthetics and are in the market for a powerful notebook that's speedy enough to churn through DX11 games and HD multimedia, the MSI GT683R is worthy of consideration.

When we reviewed the MSI GT660R last year, we gave it high marks for its overall performance, edgy design, and killer sound system, but we lamented its loud fans, short battery life, and relatively low-resolution display. The GT683R delivers superb gaming and application performance for dedicated mobile gamers. It delivers very good value considering what's inside.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560M:
The successor of the GeForce GTX 460M based on the new GF116 chip. The performance is about 13% better than the 460M but with similar power requirements due to hardware optimizations.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
2630QM: Fast Quad-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
