Reviews for the MSI FX600-i5447W7P
Quadrophony. The new all-rounder series is technologically on the cutting edge with an i5 CPU and should also cope with games. A real novelty is the sound system with four loudspeakers. The structural finish puts scratches and fingerprints into the past.

The FX600 is a well-balanced notebook at a reasonable price. It will work well for general productivity and/or school work at home, in the office, or on the go, but don't expect to spend extended amounts of time away from a plug. It's also well suited for heavier computing tasks with its powerful Core i5 processor and respectable GT325M. Things like 3D modeling, photo editing, and video editing shouldn't be a problem, assuming you can look past the mediocre display. As powerful as it is, it's not quite enough to make a solid gaming machine, but it is capable of playing modern games on reduced settings.

MSI's FX600 possesses good speed and is a reasonable model to consider if you want a gaming laptop. It also looks good and is comfortable to use -- its touchpad is among the best we've used. However, it only has 2GB of RAM and NVIDIA's Optimus dual graphics card technology doesn't always automatically pick the best graphics card for the job.

The screen is 15.6in, glossy and has a native resolution of 1366x768. As is the case with many 15.6in laptops we've seen, the MSI FX600 has very narrow vertical angles that can be a nuisance when viewing photos and videos. Reflections in the screen will also be a annoying. Overall though, the MSI FX600 is a great little unit. We love its touchpad, it's well built and relatively light at just under 2.5kg and you can use it on your lap without it feeling awkward or getting too hot as long as you are using the Intel graphics. We think it's a good unit to go for if you want a comfortable laptop that's got a good amount of CPU and graphics grunt under the hood. However, we do wish that there was a switch so that we could more easily dictate graphics card usage.

A host of affordable multimedia laptops have entered the market this year. The 15.6-inch MSI FX600 is the latest to try to win a spot in our hearts, packing an Intel Core i3-330M processor and 4GB of RAM. At around £600, can it succeed. Beneath the 15.6-inch MSI FX600's unassuming exterior lies a surprisingly powerful and affordable multimedia laptop.

MSI's Turbo Drive Engine allows you to overclock the processor for a short period of time at the touch of a button. We found when we did this performance increased by just under 4%, which is impressive and will be useful to those who need that little extra power every now and then gamers or video editors, for example. Ultimately there's a lot going for the FX600. If MSI can sort out the spongy keyboard and chassis design, it just may be on to a winner.

NVIDIA GeForce GT 325M: Slower clocked GeForce GT 330M middle class card and similar to the GT 230M.
Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.
450M: Should be similar to the Core i5-520M but without AES functions.» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
15.60":
15-inch display variants are the standard and are used for more than half of all laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, often allows high resolutions and thus offers rich details on the screen, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact - simply the standard compromise.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.MSI: Micro-Star International (MSI) was founded in 1986 in Taiwan. MSI is especially known as a manufacturer of motherboards and graphics cards for PCs, but also offers computer accessories, complete systems, motherboards, graphics cards, laptops, desktop PCs, monitors and other components. However, the Microstar brand name in Germany belongs to the Medion company. MSI is known for its gaming products and has developed a wide range of gaming laptops and desktop PCs. The company is also active in workstations, servers and industrial automation. MSI has offices in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
76.08%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
