Logitech finally gives the Yeti a proper sequel — 17 years later

Logitech G has introduced the Yeti 2, a complete redesign of the USB microphone that became almost unavoidable in podcasting, streaming and home recordings after its 2009 debut. This isn't simply the old Yeti with a USB-C attached, either.

The headline feature is an intelligent 3D voice proximity sensor which is very useful for recording a casual conversation, especially when your interlocutor doesn’t have any radio or TV background. It tracks where you're speaking from and automatically adjusts gain, EQ and even the pickup pattern as you move around. Logitech has also added AI-powered noise reduction designed to suppress unwanted things such as keyboard noise, outside noises or computer fans.

Then there's the rather charming 1.3-inch colour display. Instead of diving into software for every adjustment, the screen provides audio information and access to settings directly from the microphone. There's even a pixel-art Yeti that reacts to your levels — happy when things are good, angry when you're clipping and asleep when the mic is muted.

The Blue Voice processing now runs directly on the microphone, while deeper configuration remains available through Logitech G Hub. USB-C finally replaces the decidedly old-school connector of the original, and a 3.5 mm output provides direct monitoring. At a price of $159.99, Yeti 2 isn't trying to reinvent what a USB microphone is. Instead, Logitech seems to be tackling the biggest problem with creator microphones: people don't always sit perfectly still or know how to set one up.

After 17 years, that's a considerably more interesting upgrade than simply making the Yeti sound a little better.
