A tense indie puzzle game has just become free to claim on Steam. Called Lost in Anomaly, it promises to offer a short but deliberately unforgiving experience that's built entirely around observation. It will remain a freebie until February 16, 2026.

Lost in Anomaly, an indie game that's still in early access, has just become free to keep on Steam. It's being offered for $0 for a very limited time, and the regular $3.99 price tag will return on February 16, 2026.

The premise of the game is simple but punishing. Players step into the shoes of a disoriented protagonist who wakes up on a strange floor with no context. The main goal is to reach the ground level, but each of the floors must be carefully examined. There are anomalies in each, which range from subtle environmental inconsistencies to apparent visual glitches.

This game's progression depends on precision, and players need to mark every anomaly correctly. If one is missed, the game will reset, forcing a complete restart. This structure can turn a short gameplay session into a high-pressure memory test, but it can also be a point of frustration for some players.

One of the standout mechanics of this currently free game on Steam is the UV flashlight. Similar to how it works in the game Phasmophobia, this light can reveal anomalies that are invisible under regular lights. However, it runs on battery power, adding another layer of challenge to the overall gameplay.

Atmospherically, Lost in Anomaly leans more into restrained horror rather than frequent jump scares (jump scare-filled Outlast curr. $3.74 on Humble Bundle). There's no combat, no timers, and no traditional fail state beyond repetition. However, it's worth noting that this currently free Steam game has been in early access for quite a while now.

It was released on Steam in December 2024, and it has been over a year since Lost in Anomaly received an update. There can be bugs and performance issues, and it's unlikely that the developer will fix these problems anytime soon. Even so, for a free game, the experience that it offers makes the title worth a try.
