Dragon Ball started back in 1984 and has been around for decades, with its popularity being a sustained factor since its inception. Since then, it’s sold over 260 million copies worldwide, cementing it as one of the biggest manga and anime franchises ever.
The new coins are just one part of its anniversary collectible offerings. Others include the Dragon Ball Super Gallery project, new merch, and even Japan’s first Dragon Ball store, which is opening soon.
The Standard set
The first set includes six Japanese coins from 2025 which also function as legal tender (with actual Japanese Yen values), plus a special copper medal. On the front, collectors get Adult Goku, and on the back is the classic Four-Star Dragon Ball. The standard set costs ¥3,100 (~$21 / £16), with the mint planning to make 60,000 sets.
The Premium set
The premium version offers a more polished take since the coins offer much more detail and come with a higher quality finish. The medal in play is silver and larger, as it showcases a kid Goku instead of the adult variant in the standard offering. The back displays the 40th Anniversary logo with a rainbow shine. This also comes with a complimentary leather case. This premium set goes for ¥16,500 (~$112 / £83) with just 25,000 set to be released.
