Lenovo has an excellent device on its hands with the Zuk Z1. The phone is well built, runs excellent software, has a good display, comes with plenty of storage, and has excellent connectivity and good battery life as well. There's also a great screen which is sharp and can be tweaked and customised to your preferences. Above all, the company has achieved all of this at a great price that will tempt a lot of buyers, particularly advanced users who know a thing or two about the advantages of Cyanogen OS over other manufacturer-developed user interfaces.

Priced at Rs 13,499, the Lenovo ZUK Z1 (or the ZUK Z1) is worth your money. And it does pack in some goodies like a polished metal body, optical image stabilization and bloatware-free buttery smooth Cyanogen OS. Then there’s the large 4100mAh battery and a decent camera on the back that may not be spectacular, but gets the job done just fine.

The Lenovo Zuk Z1 is an able performer, despite the two year old SoC. At Rs. 13,499, it's not more powerful than the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3, but if you like modding your smartphone, it's worth a shot. For those waiting for a CyanogenMod-powered phone worth buying, this is it.

Lenovo ZUK Z1 review
Source: Fudzilla English Archive.org version
The ZUK Z1 is the spin-off’s first smartphone, and it’s obviously designed to impress the geeky crowd. The phone runs Cyanogen OS 12.1, based on Android 5.1.1. Mind you, this is not CyanogenMod, there are no nightly builds, this is not a community effort, Cyanogen OS is proper operating system with Google support, and it’s developed and maintained by Cyanogen (as in the company rather than the community).

80% A mid-range Android phone with loads of storage and battery power built-in
Source: Tech Advisor English Archive.org version
The Z1 is a good first attempt from ZUK. It's not a super-cheap budget phone, but we think the price is about right given the hardware inside. Standout features include the 5.5in full-HD screen, large battery, 64GB of built-in storage and USB-C port. Although there's no removable battery or microSD card support, you could argue that you need neither.

A lot of smartphone for little money. With the second generation of the Z series, ZUK continues where the Z1 model left off: Very good technical specifications at a low purchase price. Only a handful of manufacturers manage a Snapdragon 820, 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of ROM for 270 Euros (~$302). Find out in our report where Lenovo's subsidiary brand ZUK had to make cutbacks.
75% Lenovo ZUK Z2: Amazing value but with some big drawbacks
Source: Neowin English Archive.org version
The ZUK Z2 is a well-built phone with great top-of-the-range hardware backing it. It's progressively becoming rarer to see 5-inch devices and they're significantly more comfortable - at least in my case - to hold and use. The fingerprint sensor on the phone (integrated into the home button) is extremely responsive and almost always works seamlessly and the phone itself tends to feel solid and well constructed.

Lenovo ZUK Z2 Plus

The slim profile of the Z2 Plus makes it perfect for one-handed use without compromising its power and quality with 141.7 x 68.9 x 8.5 mm and a weight of only 149 g. The chassis of the phone is made from magnesium alloy with a roll cage design, i.e. all the key components are mounted on a metal frame to increase the structural integrity of the phone and assist with effective thermal management. The back of the phone is covered entirely by glass, giving it a simple and elegant look, but at the cost of attracting smudges and grime. The screen size of the Z2 Plus has been downsized to 5-inch, but retains a resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels at a pixel density of 441 ppi. The display is able to produce sharp, clean and bright images with fairly accurate and natural-looking colors. The Z2 Plus is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, complemented with an Adreno 530 GPU. It comes in two options: 3 GB RAM with an internal storage of 32 GB, or 4 GB RAM with 64 GB of internal storage. Both options, sadly, do not come with the provision to expand the storage by adding in a microSD card. The Z2 Plus has a 13 MP primary camera on the rear with f/2.2 aperture to render high quality images even in low light conditions, and an 8 MP front shooter with 1080p video recording capabilities. The phone is packed with a large, non-removable 3500 mAh battery, giving it roughly two days’ worth of battery life. Running on Android v6.0.1 Marshmallow out of the box, the Z2 Plus brings with it a few interesting additions, one of them being the U-Health app, which is basically a customized version of Google Fit. The app keeps track of the user’s steps, calorie and distance at all times. In conjunction with the U-Health app, Lenovo has bundled pro-fitness Ant+ sensors into the handset to track real-time data for health and other applications. Users can manually add on different exercises like running, yoga or swimming, and the U-Health app is smart enough to distinguish between each physical activity. All the data is stored securely in the phone and users can monitor their progress over a period of time. The physical home button of the Z2 Plus, named the U-Touch button, doubles as a fingerprint scanner, and can be customized by the user to provide true one-handed experience. The fingerprint sensor is paired with a self-learning algorithm, meaning the fingerprint recognition will grow more accurate over time, enabling the phone to be unlocked fairly quickly and easier. The CAC algorithm on the fingerprint module also detects irregularities (skin peel, wound, dry skin, etc. and can unlock the phone with wet and oily fingers. By default, tapping the U-Touch button will function as the back key, while pressing down will bring up the home screen. Swiping left and right, double-clicking or long pressing the U-Touch button can also control actions which users’ can assign from within the Settings app. This smartphone will definitely be a good choice for buyers who are looking for a flagship device with a 5 inch screen. Review Revisit: Lenovo Z2 Plus – Looks of a Beauty, Power of a Beast… Now at a Killer Price
Source: Tech PP English Archive.org version
The Z2 Plus (3 GB/ 32 GB) was one heck of device even when it was priced at Rs. 17,999 but now that Lenovo has slashed down the price of the smartphone by three grand, we think this makes it an even sweeter deal. There could have been some improvements around the camera and few more tweaks in the UI would have been nice but that said, the smartphone is a beauty in the looks department with beast-like power. Although there are a number of devices in this price segment, we do not think any of them comes remotely close to the Z2 Plus. So if you are on a tight budget and want a flagship level device, should you buy it?

In terms of hardware, the Lenovo Z2 Plus gives you the best that Rs 20,000 can buy right now. But its camera and display's performance is far from the desired level for a phone costing Rs 19,999. Lenovo has priced the second-generation ZUK smartphone competitive at a starting price of Rs. 17,999, similar to its predecessor. The Lenovo Z2 Plus comes as the first choice under Rs. 20,000 for those who are looking for a compact smartphone that is powerful, offers good battery life and has a good build quality. The fingerprint sensor is fast, but it has minor heating issues. One of the main drawbacks is the poor low-light camera performance and lack of manual control.

75% Hard to beat in the sub-Rs 20k segment; but camera is disappointing
Source: Tech2.in.com English Archive.org version
So let us answer that one question that is the norm when it comes to Snapdragon 820 chipset sporting smartphones – Is this phone better than the OnePlus 3? Well, No. There are many areas where OnePlus 3 still excels such as camera, build quality, performance and so on. But under Rs 20,000 price bracket, the Lenovo Z2 Plus has little competition. It is preferable to go for the 4GB RAM / 64GB storage variant of the Z2 Plus – it just makes sense to spend Rs 2000 more than the base model. With the Z2 Plus you are getting a flagship level chipset in the mid-range segment pricing. So it will definitely appeal to the college going crowd or someone who is upgrading from sub-Rs 10,000 phone.

Lenovo ZUK Edge

The Edge is ZUK’s latest 5.5 inch smartphone released by the Chinese manufacturer. This device should not be regarded as another Lenovo smartphone as the ZUK, notwithstanding it being a subsidiary of Lenovo, is selling devices exclusively using its own brand. It is apparent from its name that this smartphone is poised to achieve a bezel-less design. It may not be bezel-free akin to Xiaomi Mix; still, its display to body ratio is 86.4 %, which is good enough to give almost no space for your fingers to rest on. The Edge adopts double 2.5D glass design which is thin and strong and thereby making this smartphone more attractive and comfortable. The display is also coated with Corning Gorilla Glass for added protection. The screen features a super AMOLED TDDI screen with a pixel densitity of 403 PPI and 1920 x 1080 resolution. Visuals rendered are sharp and crisp with remarkable clarity thanks to the AMOLED technology. Enhanced with Dirac HD Sound, audio quality is beyond average. The dimensions measure at 142.9 x 74.5 x 7.68 mm and the smartphone weighs 160 g making it quite light, thin and small for a 5.5 inch smartphone. The battery life on this smartphone is remarkable as it is fitted with a large 3100 mAh battery. This is further enhanced with ZUK’s double chips charging technology, which enables the device to be charged faster and safer. The Edge however, might not appeal very well to shutterbugs as it is supported with an 8 MP front facing camera and a primary 13 MP camera on its rear with auto focus and ISOCELL sensor. This is of course good enough, but other manufacturers have been able to offer higher resolution cameras with better optics. With these optics, users can be assured that images captured will be of proper quality but as mentioned, will not be the best the market can offer. The performance is remarkable as the smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processer (14 nm Kryo Quad core 64-bit, 2.35 GHz). With 6 GB of RAM, multi-tasking capabilities on this smartphone are prompt and fast. Storage available is 64 GB, which is expendable via a microSD card. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow system can be upgraded to Android 7.0 Nougat according to Lenovo but there hasn’t been any updates available as of now. It comes fitted with the latest USB type-C port. ZUK ships this smartphone in dual SIM mode. It is supported by a fingerprint sensor, which can be easily customized with gestures for unlocking purposes and ID recognition, thus improving security and convenience. Overall, ZUK’s Edge is an appealing, well-rounded phone as can be seen from its specs sheet. It is a cool smartphone which is loaded with the latest features. To top it off, it is also attractively priced which makes this device an option to look out for. At this price, the mediocre camera quality is forgivable. Hands-on article by Jagadisa Rajarathnam

5.00:

It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.

79.98%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
