After facing a few delays, AMD's premier Ryzen 7 4800U is finally starting to hit store shelves. Results are insane for a 14-inch subnotebook to the point where it'd be tough to recommend an Intel counterpart when given the same price.

As an all-rounder, I'm having a hard time finding any other device that offers the same kind of value for the same kind of money as this Lenovo IdeaPad (Yoga) Slim 7. This is the most capable implementation of the mobile AMD Ryzen platform we've seen so far, and Lenovo didn't skimp on the build quality, screen, thermal design, speakers or inputs either. At the same time, don't expect this to feel as premium or offer all the bells and whistles available on 2000+ USD/EUR ultraportables, because it doesn't. But it's also a much more affordable option, and pretty much unmatched in its segment right now.

AMD launched the Ryzen Mobile 4000-series chips with much gusto at the turn of the year. For reasons that are obvious, it has taken a while for laptop manufacturers to adopt the technology across their Ultrabook and gaming ranges.

When Intel unwraps its 11th-gen “Tiger Lake” CPUs next week, we’ll witness an epic battle for the soul of thin and light laptops unlike any we have ever seen before. Our earlier prediction that Tiger Lake will lose against Ryzen 4000 in multi-threaded tasks stays the same. Well, kind of. After seeing the Ryzen 7 4800U’s results, we actually think it’ll be a total blowout in multi-threaded performance now. Graphics, however, might just be closer than we expected. And one area Tiger Lake is likely to win big is single-threaded performance, which is actually probably more important for most of what it is done in a small laptop.

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 is available in a 14-inch version with both AMD and Intel processors. In this test, we want to find out whether the Intel model with the dedicated GPU from Nvidia is the better choice, or whether it's better to go for a Ryzen processor.

With its hardware, Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 (14IIL05) has a desktop computing performance. Although it compensates with a fingerprint scanner, it has everything that a working professional needs. Ideal for those who are always on the go, Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 is one of the daily workhorses that can work and play. It performs faster, provides better connectivity and battery life, and has enough ports for presentations and peripherals. Lenovo also made the latest Yoga Slim series more affordable with its AMD Ryzen 5 4500 variant mated with 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD priced at PHP 49,995. This particular Intel-powered model, however, retails at PHP 69,995. That being said, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 is worth every peso.

Okay, we kind of knew what to expect, but to say that we were impressed by this notebook would be an understatement. Yes, there are some downsides, like the lack of memory upgrades for example, but at the end of the day, this laptop houses the best ultrabook processors you can find out in the wild.

With a starting price of RM3499, I think this is an excellent laptop for work and creating contents. Personally, I totally love the battery performance and dual stereo speakers. The face unlock feature and the auto-brightness adjustment are nice additions as well. If you want to play some games, it's still fine but just not Triple-A video game titles. Laptops like this are generally quite expensive and could go over the RM5K mark easily, but if compared with the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 which we reviewed earlier this year, I would prefer the Yoga Slim 7.

Lenovo: Lenovo ( "Le" as in the English word legend and "novo" (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. From 2004, the company has been the largest laptop manufacturer in China and got the fourth largest manufacturer worldwide after the acquisition of IBM's PC division in 2005. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company also produces monitors, projectors, servers, etc.
In 2011, Lenovo acquired the majority of Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Lenovo took over Motorola Mobility, which gave them a boost in the smartphone market.
From 2014 to 2016 Lenovo's market share in the global notebook market was 20-21%, ranking second behind HP. However, the distance decreased gradually. In the smartphone market, Lenovo did not belong to the Top 5 global manufacturers in 2016.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.
AMD Vega 8 R4000: Integrated graphics card of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 8 CUs (= 512 shaders) and a clock of up to 1.750 MHz.
AMD Vega 7: Integrated graphics card of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 7 CUs (= 448 shaders) and a clock of up to 1600 MHz.
AMD Vega 6: Integrated graphics card of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 6 CUs (= 384 shaders) and a clock of up to 1.500 MHz.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.
NVIDIA GeForce MX350: Successor of the MX250 and most likely a renamed GeForce GTX 1050 based on the Pascal GP107 chip with 640 shaders and a 64 Bit memory bus for GDDR5.
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Mobile: Mid range dedicated graphics card for laptops based on the desktop GTX 1650 and therefore the Turing architecture (TU117 chip in 12nm FFN) without raytracing and Tensor cores. Available with 896 and 1024 shaders.

AMD Renoir (Ryzen 4000 APU):
R7 4800U: Mobile Octa-Core APU using Zen 2 cores clocked at 1.8 to 4.2 GHz and a Vega graphics card with 8 CUs clocked at up to 1750 MHz. Compared to the faster 4800H, the 4800U has a lower TDP and base clock, but the graphics card is faster.
R7 4700U: Mobile Octa-Core APU using Zen 2 cores clocked at 2 to 4 GHz and a Vega graphics card with 7 CUs clocked at up to 1600 MHz. Compared to the faster 4800U, the 4700U offers a slightly lower boost clock speed and does not support SMT / Hyperthreading.
R5 4500U: Mobile Hexy-Core APU using six Zen 2 cores clocked at 2.3 to 4 GHz and a Vega graphics card with 6 CUs clocked at up to 1500 MHz. The CPU does not support SMT / Hyperthreading.
Intel Ice Lake:
i7-1065G7: Ice Lake based low power quad-core processor for thin and light laptops. The four cores clock between 1.3 - 3.9 GHz and should offer 18% more IPC (instructions per clock) than the previous generations (and therefore partly close the clock speed gap). Produced in 10nm at Intel.
Intel Comet Lake:
i5-10300H: On Comet Lake architecture (4th gen of Skylake) based processor for big and heavy laptops. Integrates four processor cores clocked at 2.5 - 4.5 GHz (4.2 GHz with 4 cores) that support HyperThreading.
» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Processsors.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
1.3 kg:
This weight is typical for big tablets, small subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles with a 10-11 inch display-diagonal.
1.8 kg:
This weight is typical for very big tablets, subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles with a 11-13 inch display-diagonal.
92.48%: Indeed, this rating is very goodl There do not exist many notebook models, which are rated better.
