Reviews for the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga G7 21CE002HGE
Business laptops with the new Intel Alder Lake processors are now slowly coming onto the market. The first candidate in our editorial department is Lenovo's flagship convertible for the business sector, the ThinkPad X1 Yoga G7. However, there are still difficulties with the implementation of the new Alder Lake P chip.

What Lenovo has done with the ThinkPad X1 Yoga, is create a durable laptop with a lot of features and craftsmanship. However, the laptop was designed with the Alder Lake U-series in mind, as the cooling doesn’t seem to be capable to handle the more power-hungry P-series. If you want the X1 Yoga for your next device, we advise going with a 15W CPU, which should improve comfort and even battery life.

Now, if you want a powerhouse, then the ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 7 won’t be a great choice. Perhaps one of the reasons for that is that Lenovo prefers comfort over full performance for this rather premium niche product. On the other hand, you can enjoy a good performance in short bursts, a fantastic keyboard, and a very solid structure. Unfortunately, the OLED panel is not battery life’s biggest friend, as we got less than 8 hours of Web browsing, and almost 5 hours of video playback. That would be a problem if you are a traveler, or you rely on your battery more often than not. In this case, we would suggest opting for a different display.

Like I said, this is a phenomenal laptop. But you should definitely be planning to use it as a tablet from time to time. Otherwise, you should look at the ThinkPad X1 Carbon or X1 Nano, as they’re lighter and better suited to be strictly clamshell laptops. In fact, for tablet use, the best was the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga, a 3:2 ultra-light convertible that was specifically designed to be great at being a tablet and a laptop, while most convertibles are meant to be a laptop first. The Titanium Yoga is no more though, so the ThinkPad X1 Yoga gets the crown of best business convertible.

The 2022 Gen 7 edition of the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga 14” convertible slim and light business laptop sports an aluminum chassis in Storm Gray rather than the traditional matte black. It’s refreshed with Intel 12th gen Alder Lake CPUs with optional vPro, Windows 11, Thunderbolt 4 and a larger trackpad. The 4K OLED display option is back this year, and the Ultrabook is also available with full HD IPS display, all at 16:10 aspect ratio. As ever, a garaged rechargeable pen is included and the convertible’s screen supports touch. 4G and sub6 5G are optional.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
