Much like with the X1 Carbon, the 2020 X1 Yoga will excel in CPU-heavy loads, but would still be limited by the amount/type of RAM or the GPU performance, compared to the existing IceLake based options in its class. On top of that, you should also look for detailed reviews in order to figure out how much would that six-core i7-10710U offer compared to the quad-core alternatives in this sort of a chassis, with limited cooling capabilities and quiet fans.

Lenovo isn't reinventing the wheel with the 8th Gen ThinkPad X1 Carbon but a few welcome changes are coming to the 2020 model. Those include a slightly updated design, new processor options, a more functional keyboard, and a privacy screen display. We're looking forward to getting hands-on time with the new X1 Carbon at CES 2020 and will update this article once we do.

Lenovo shows the 8th generation of its business flagship ThinkPad X1 Carbon. However, it is just a very small update and it looks like you only get a new Intel Comet Lake-U processor at first. AMD processors are not planned for this generation of the expensive business notebook.

Lenovo also offers the 2020 ThinkPad X1 Carbon with an optional glossy 4K screen, which is supposed to reach a brightness of 500 nits and also supports HDR contents. but how does the panel affect the battery runtime of the compact business laptop?

Its slightly larger screen, slightly preferable keyboard, and HDMI port put us on Team X1 Carbon instead of Team XPS 13, but you can't go wrong with either. For the record, we're giving the Carbon Gen 8 only four and a half stars instead of a perfect five, because it's not perfect—it has no microSD card slot. Nor is it cheap, though it's not outrageously overpriced; a couple of hundred bucks over the ultraportable going rate seems a fair amount to pay for one of the finest, if not the finest, laptop experiences on the planet. You only live once.

The 8th Gen ThinkPad X1 Carbon is a minor update to an already fantastic laptop. The new 10th Gen Intel vPro CPUs deliver a slight performance boost, but not enough for me to recommend upgrading if you already own the 7th Gen model (especially the mid-cycle refresh with 10th Gen chips). If your business laptop is getting sluggish and it's time for a new one, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon should be at the top of your list. It has an ultraslim yet durable chassis, great display options, the best keyboard in its class and fast performance. The X1 Carbon also gets good battery life (on the 1080p model), although rivals like the Elite Dragonfly and ExpertBook B9450 last even longer on a charge. So although the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 8th Gen is practically identical to the previous version, it maintains its position as the best business laptop on the market — at least, for now.

Indeed, there are some irritating things, but at the end of the day, it does pretty much everything Lenovo promises, and if we neglect the extremely premium price tag, this is a very good unit, whatsoever. Definitely competing with the XPS 13, and to some extent – providing more, while being less hyped.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 is a tough, reliable and capable laptop with a light and slim body, nice display, excellent keyboard, generous connectivity, good performance for its class, and decent battery life. However, it’s not for everyone though, given the high starting price tag of PHP 129,990. It’s a serious business laptop meant for corporate people with serious money. But if you’re just a regular person who needs a capable ultrabook for work and entertainment, there are more affordable options out there.

Admittedly, the soldered RAM is a shame – especially as it maxes out at 16GB, and cannot be upgraded or configured beyond that limit. Similarly, we would have liked to have seen Intel's most recent silicon used, and the option to include an ultrabook-friendly graphics card would make this machine more compelling for those who deal with GPU acceleration at work. But if you can get past those quibbles, this really is a great machine. ®

Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.
In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.
In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

14.00:
14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.
The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact.
In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

88%: This is an above-average rating. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that about one fifth of all tested models receive a better rating.
