Best of all, the Slim 9i is very portable and light, so I don’t think anything of putting it in my backpack and carrying it when I know I’ll need it. Lenovo IdeaPad 1, as mentioned, is aimed at offering the best possible value-for-money proposition to buyers without compromising much in terms of features and performance. For the asking price of Rs 40,990, the IdeaPad 1 has a lot going for it. For instance, the efficient AMD Ryzen 3 processor, LPDDR5 RAM and PCI Gen 4 storage. Then, the display quality is good with decent brightness, matte finish and good viewing angles. The icing on the cake is the battery life which is good for a laptop of this price. There are some quirks as well. For instance, the keys and trackpad size could have been bigger. However, both things are just a matter of getting used to, nothing major. For those who are looking for an affordable Windows laptop that does not disappoint in terms of performance and battery life, then IdeaPad 1 is a good choice.

Lenovo IdeaPad 1 (15″, 2023) review – affordable and pretty efficient

At the end of the day, the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 (15″, 2023) is one of the better affordable laptops money can buy right now. It has a decent performance, albeit coming from a CPU that is based on old architecture. Playing low-intensity games is possible but at low to medium settings. We are really happy with the cooling setup, but the main event here is the battery life. We got 9 hours of either Web browsing or video playback, which is a great result. Especially if you compare this device with the ASUS E410. Last but not least comes the build quality. As an overall execution, it is good. However, the materials used are not great – soft plastic, which bends a lot when twisted or pressed. Unfortunately, this is an issue with all laptops in this price range. In this case, things are further complicated by the short key travel of the keyboard, which doesn’t combine well with the bendy base. Overall, the Lenovo IdeaPad 1 (15″, 2023) is for people who need a laptop. If you make sure you get at least 8GB of RAM and an IPS panel you will be pretty happy with your purchase. And we will be happy if you are able to provide your experience in the long-term use in the comment section below. This will give priceless insight to others looking to buy this device.

Everything else about this laptop is actually very good. Still, I wouldn’t mind if Lenovo increased the price of this laptop by a little just so that we can get a 1080p IPS LCD screen. Doesn’t have to be the most color accurate screen, but that viewing angle is important. But, we are planning another video talking about how to upgrade your laptop’s screen. Yes, it’s possible – because we did it on another laptop. This laptop is the Lenovo V14 that we reviewed a few months ago, and I just upgraded the screen. We’ll dive into that later. Lenovo: Lenovo ("Le" from English legend, novo (Latin) for new) was founded in 1984 as a Chinese computer trading company. As of 2004, the company was the largest laptop manufacturer in China and, after acquiring IBM's PC division in 2005, the fourth largest in the world. In addition to desktops and notebooks, the company manufactures monitors, projectors, servers, etc, and specializes in developing, manufacturing and marketing consumer electronics, personal computers, software, enterprise solutions and related services.

In 2016, the company ranked first in the world in computer sales. It still held it in 2023 with about 23% global market share. Important product lines are Thinkpad, Legion and Ideapad.

In 2011, it acquired a majority stake in Medion AG, a European computer hardware manufacturer. In 2014, Motorola Mobility was purchased, which gave Lenovo a boost in the smartphone market.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.

AMD Radeon R4 (Stoney Ridge): Integrated graphics adapter of some AMD-A dual-core APUs ("Stoney Ridge"). Based on the GCN architecture, implements 192 shader units and runs at up to 600 MHz depending on the model. The performance can vary heavily depending on the TDP (10-15 Watts for the whole chip).

Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

AMD Vega 5: Integrated graphics card of the Ryzen APUs based on the Vega architecture with 5 CUs (= 320 shaders) and a clock of up to 1400 MHz.

Intel UHD Graphics G1 (Ice Lake 32 EU): Integrated graphics card in Intel Ice-Lake G1 SoCs based on the new Gen. 11 architecture with 32 of the 64 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model ranging from 300 MHz base to 1050 - 1100 MHz boost. The Ice-Lake chips are produced in the modern 10nm process at Intel produced.

NVIDIA GeForce MX350: Successor of the MX250 and most likely a renamed GeForce GTX 1050 based on the Pascal GP107 chip with 640 shaders and a 64 Bit memory bus for GDDR5.

Intel Iris Xe G7 96EUs: Integrated graphics card in Intel Tiger Lake G4 SoCs based on the new Gen. 12 architecture with 96 EUs (Execution Units / Shader Cluster). The clock rate depends on the processor model. The Tiger Lake chips are produced in the modern 10nm+ process at Intel.

AMD Radeon 610M: Integrated graphics card in the Ryzen 7020 mobile series APUs based on the RDNA2 architecture with 2 CUs (= 128 shaders) and a clock speed of up to 1.9 GHz.

AMD Bristol Ridge:

A6-9220e: Entry-level APU of the Stoney-Ridge series released in 2017. Integrates 2 CPU cores (1 module with two integer and one FP unit) clocked at 1.6 to 2.4 GHz and an AMD Radeon R4 graphics card clocked at 600 MHz. Compared to the similar named A6-9220 the 9220e is significantly slower clocked (2.5 - 2.9 GHz) including the GPU (600 versus 655 MHz) and can be passively cooled thanks to the TDP of 6W.

AMD Renoir (Ryzen 4000 APU):

R3 4300U: Mobile Quad-Core APU using four Zen 2 cores clocked at 2.7 to 3.7 GHz and a Vega graphics adapter with 5 CUs clocked at up to 1400 MHz. The CPU does not support SMT / Hyperthreading.

Intel Ice Lake:

i5-1035G1: A low-power, Ice Lake family processor (SoC) featuring 4 cores, 8 threads, 6 MB of L3 cache and the UHD G1 (32 EUs) iGPU. This Core i5 saw the light of day in H2 2019; it is designed for use in highly portable consumer laptops. The CPU cores run at 1.0 GHz to 3.6 GHz. The Sunny Cove microarchitecture that is in use here is notable for several improvements over Skylake including support for new technologies, new instruction sets and fast LPDDR4-3733 RAM. There is no PCIe 4 support here, however.

i7-1065G7: Ice Lake-based quad-core processor for thin and light laptops. The four cores are clocked at 1.3 GHz to 3.9 GHz and should offer 18% more IPC (instructions per clock) than the previous generations (and therefore partly close the clock speed gap). Produced on first-gen 10 nm Intel process.

Intel Tiger Lake:

i7-1165G7: An upper mid-range, quad-core processor of Tiger Lake product family. The i7 is designed for use in ultra-light (yet actively cooled) laptops; it is manufactured on Intel's third-gen 10 nm process marketed as SuperFin. The CPU cores run at 2.8 GHz (base clock speed @ 28 W TDP) to 4.7 GHz (single-core Boost frequency). This i7 features the 96 EU Intel Iris Xe G7 iGPU; it was the second-fastest CPU of TGL-UP3 line-up when Intel initially launched the series in 2020.

AMD Mendocino (Zen 2, Ryzen 7020):

R3 7320U: Mobile Quad-Core APU using four Zen 2 cores clocked at 2.4 to 4.1 GHz and SMT (8 threads).

14 inch display size represents a middle ground between the small subnotebook formats and the screens of the standard 15 inch laptops.

The reason for the popularity of mid-sized displays is that this size is reasonably easy on the eyes, provides good resolutions with usable detail sizes, yet does not consume too much power and the devices can still be reasonably compact. 

In the past, 14-inch devices were very rare, but now they are the standard for laptops after the 15-inchers.
