Epic Games Store is currently giving away Cassette Beasts, a well-rated indie RPG title, and this freebie happens to match the past pattern. That's why not many were surprised to see it being the December 27 game giveaway for the PC section.
As for the December 28 game giveaway, which will be the 12th free game of this Christmas season 2025, there's also a pattern in the past freebies. Looking back, these are the games that were given away on this exact date in the past few years:
- 2020 - Stranded Deep
- 2021 - Moving Out
- 2022 - Mortal Shell
- 2023 - Cat Quest (curr. $3.24 on Humble Bundle)
- 2024 - Kill Knight
One thing that's quite noticeable in the list above is that it contains mid-tier or indie games. This somewhat rules out the possibility of the upcoming game giveaway being an AAA or high-profile title. Moreover, none of the above-listed titles is notably narrative-heavy, and they are not particularly known to be casual games.
Another clue for the upcoming December 28 free game on Epic Games Store is that it's blacklisted in South Korea. This was pointed out by a South Korean Redditor who found out that the mystery game wrapper isn't available on the storefront in their end, which only happens when the title is currently blacklisted in the country they are in.
There can also be a repeat, meaning that the upcoming free game might be a game that was given away in the past. With all these considered, Hyper Light Drifter is a strong candidate. It was offered by Epic Games Store as a freebie in 2019, and currently, there's no discount in place on the storefront.
Garden Story is another probable candidate, which is a Cat Quest-like indie game that's also not discounted on Epic Games Store. Among the other likely candidates are Kingdom: New Lands, Sifu, The Ascent, and Curse of the Dead Gods. For those wondering, the twelfth mystery free game reveal is set for December 28, 2025, at UTC 16:00. Until then, the 11th mystery freebie will be available to claim.
