LG G-Slate tablet could be delayed until April

Reports suggest a delay of LG’s 3D-enabled tablet, official announcement expected at CTIA trade show

Looks like customers in the U.S. will have to wait just a little longer before they can get their hands on LG’s upcoming tablet. T-mobile blog TmoNews is reporting an expected delay for the LG G-Slate. The new supposed April 20th release date would be about one month behind schedule of the previously planned March 23rd launch date. An official announcement for the delay could come later this month at the CTIA tradeshow.

Reasons for a delay were not mentioned, but given the current tablet climate, there can be a number of possible causes. For one, LG may be deciding to avoid the recently launched IPad 2. The Apple tablet has been selling like hotcakes and could overshadow new tablets that launch within the same timeframe. Therefore, avoiding a March launch can give the G-Slate extra breathing room for better marketing opportunities.

In addition to the G-Slate, the T-Mobile G2x smartphone is expected to launch at the same time, giving T-mobile customers more options for their cellular and data needs.

The 8.9-inch LG G-Slate will be equipped with a 1GHz Tegra 2 processor, 1280x768 resolution screen, dual cameras for 3D recording, Android 3.0, and be compatible with T-mobile’s network. It was first shown at CES earlier this year. Unfortunately, prices and possible models have yet to be announced, but could be made public this month at the CTIA show. It would be unsurprising if a future Wi-Fi only model was announced, as was the case for the Motorola Xoom and iPad 2.
