The number of people suffering from age-related dementia and Alzheimer’s is growing, along with the number of patients who wander off and get lost. Tracking down lost patients by searching room to room wastes time and staff resources, and the Nano Smart Tag IR counters this by providing the real-time location of all patients so they can be quickly found.
Readers who are worried about their parents, dogs, or children wandering off can buy the previously reported Tack GPS location tracker (from Amazon) that works worldwide over cellular networks.
The live data is also useful in monitoring doctor visits, ensuring each patient is seen for a minimum amount of time. The location data also reveals bottlenecks in patient flow through the medical treatment processes, allowing medical facilities to fine-tune flows for faster care.
The wearable wristband has the world’s smallest Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) tag compatible with Bluetooth 5.1. The tag has a broadcast range of 164 feet (50 m) and is powered by a more environmentally-friendly, silver oxide battery for up to 14 days before replacement. The Smart Tag IR measures 1.25 x 0.98 x 0.23 inches (32 x 25 x 6 mm) and weighs just 0.03 ounce (4 gr). The wearable is IP67-rated for protection against dust intrusion as well as water intrusion for 30 minutes at 3 feet (0.9 m).
